NRA Files Bankruptcy – What’s Next?
The National Rifle Association announced today that when it comes to New York they are done. President of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre announced in a letter that they are, “Dumping New York, and we are pursuing plans to reincorporate the NRA in Texas.” The NRA has been based in the New York since 1871, establishing long roots within the State since it was granted a charter.
What Next for the NRA?
LaPierre has stated in his letter to members of the NRA on their website, “To facilitate the strategic plan and restructuring, the NRA and one of its subsidiaries have filed voluntary chapter 11 petitions in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division.” LaPierre stated that this was utilized for, “nonprofits and organizations of all kind to streamline legal and financial affairs.”
Continuing on with plans as usual?
LaPierre states that all members will still continue to receive the benefits that they have always received when it comes to the NRA. Following membership concerns, LaPierre also stated that when it comes to the main goal of the NRA, things will continue as before with the organization fighting for the rights of gun-owners around the country.
But wait there’s more?
In an opening statement to organization members, LaPierre has stated that when it comes to the NRA’s restructuring plan, “positions us for the long-term and ensures our continued success as the nation’s leading advocate for constitutional freedom- free from the toxic political environment of New York.” Could this mean that when it comes to preserving members and showing the rest of the gun owners in the country that they are willing to separate from its origins, in order to continue on in working to preserve the 2nd Amendment? We will see. Texas is indeed home to a large number of members to the NRA coming in at , “400,000 members,” according to LaPierre. With everything pending court approval this is definitely a development that we are continuing to follow.
